Movie on Basquiat at Verge

Do you guys know about Verge?  It’s a local Art Center in Sacramento.  Verge Center for the Arts is located at 625 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811 at the corner of 7th and S Streets.
I got a reminder from them about a pretty cool art movie they’re going to be showing–they have them every month. Go check out their website ( and maybe go visit during one of their open studio days–it could be a new space for you to make work and meet other artists and art lovers in the area.
You can grab tickets for the movie event happening on the 21st, or you can just get a membership and go for free.  Membership is pretty cheap for students ($35 a year gets you free events and some classes or time in their art studios) and even if you are not a member you can still go to exhibitions, events, etc.
Anyways, here’s the upcoming movie:

MARCH 21, 2019
7:30 PM

‘Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat’ follows Basquiat’s life pre-fame and how New York City, the times, the people and the movements surrounding him formed the artist he became.  Drawing upon his friends memories and anecdotes, the film also uses period film footage, music and images to visually re-recreate the era, drawing a portrait of Jean-Michel and Downtown New York City -pre AIDS, President Reagan, the real estate and art booms – before anyone was motivated by money and ambition. The definition of fame, success and power were very different than today – to be a penniless but published poet was the height of success, until everything changed in the early 1980s. This is New York City’s story before that change.
