Oh man, I can’t believe how many photo places are going belly up. First I hear that Fuji is shutting down production of one type of color film, and in the same week I hear Costco is closing down all their photo labs in the stores.

We are writing to inform you about the upcoming closure of the photo department at all Costco locations on Sunday, February 14, 2021.

Since the introduction of camera phones and social media, the need for printing photos has steeply declined, even though the number of pictures taken continues to grow. After careful consideration, we have determined the continued decline of prints no longer requires on-site photo printing.

The letter also said that they will continue to do online orders that are shipped to your house, which is a silver lining in covid times, but the ability to make prints on the fly is gone most places. Costco isn’t a professional level printing place, but it’s been reliable for so many of my students, this is a bummer.

  1. Oh no that’s terrible!! I better get my order in to Costco soon then! When you order enlargements online they ship rolled up and I’m not a fan of that.
